Dogs, Conservation, and a Couple of Kiddos

Hailing from the land of 10,000 lakes, Ben spends much of the fall and winter following pointing dogs through grouse woods, western plains, and deserts of North America in pursuit of upland birds. A passionate conservationist, he is an active member of Pheasants and Quail Forever and serves on the Board of Directors for the Ruffed Grouse & American Woodcock Society.

Above all else, he is a devoted husband and father of two, driven by a deep belief in preserving the opportunities that shaped his life so the next generation can inherit them with the same sense of wonder and possibility.

Best Hunting Advice He’s Received

Go where the birds are. It sounds cheeky, but it’s true. It’s hard to have a great hunt in places with limited bird numbers. I’d rather travel a little farther in pursuit of a memorable hunt than spend days grinding through marginal country with limited success.

Favorite Terrain To Hunt

This question is brutal! It’s hard to beat the grouse woods on a cool late October afternoon, but a crisp morning in the Flint Hills of Kansas watching a covey rise off the nose of a pointer is right up there with it.
