Trail Overview

The East Range Multi-Use Trail is broken into various segments. The Trail connects Gilbert, Minnesota, to Biwabik, Minnesota, in this stretch. It's made for Class 1&2 ATVs and is free to use as long as your equipment is properly registered with the MN DNR. The trail starts from the backside of the OHV Park and can be accessed through an ATV Gate. Once through the gate, it will take you parallel to the highway as well as the Mesabi Trail (Paved Bike & Walking Trail). It's well-maintained and a very fun ride. Along the trail, you will encounter a boardwalk that was installed to cross a swamp. The trail crosses multiple roads at various points, so pay attention to the signage. Overall, the difficulty is low, with the most technical spot being a hill climb to bring you up onto the highway, allowing you to cross the railroad tracks. A fun connector trail.
