This is an easy, beginner-friendly trail ideal for stock vehicles and casual riders. The surface consists mainly of gravel and hard-packed dirt, with a few gentle elevation changes and optional small hill climbs. Nothing too technical, just enough to keep things interesting without risking body damage. One highlight of the trail is a bridge crossing where, if you time it right, you can catch active ore trains hauling loads from the nearby mining operation. It's a unique moment that blends scenic riding with a glimpse into the area's industrial backbone. This trail also serves as a connector to other routes deeper in the system, making it a great starting point or warm-up run.

History

The Iron Range OHV Recreation Area was built on reclaimed mining land, once part of the rich Mesabi Iron Range that fueled U.S. steel production for over a century. Today, this 1,200+ acre site blends industrial history with outdoor adventure, offering a rare chance to ride through the remnants of Minnesota's mining legacy.
