Harrison Hills ATV West Branch

Trail Overview

Harrison Hills is a 47-50 mile loop trail system through Lincoln County's Harrison Hills forest, built largely on old logging roads. The terrain is heavily forested and hilly, interspersed with bogs, small lakes, rock outcroppings, and prairie strips. Lincoln County Forestry Land and Parks Department confirms that SUVs are welcome on the ATV/UTV trails - this is corroborated by their promotional pamphlet. Expect a mix of surfaces: dirt, gravel, forest road, occasional washouts, shallow water crossings, and narrow rutted spurs. If you explore side trails, you may encounter sections where mud ruts deepen significantly. The main corridor flowed well and remained pleasant most of the time, with hills and curves offering scenic views. The trail is well marked. You may pass numerous ATV/UTV users who usually communicate courteously to share the way. Some segments require brief traveling on county or town roads. Seasonally, the trail is open roughly May 1 through December 1, weather-dependent. Several trail segments cross private land; those parts are restricted to ATV/UTV use only. Camping options, restrooms, and access points exist around the system.

Difficulty

While large stretches are manageable logging roads with moderate grades, some portions feature steeper climbs, sharp curves, and tighter, rutted spurs that test traction and line choice. Mud holes may demand careful negotiation. The rating is set by the trickiest spots, not the whole route. Conditions shift significantly with weather and soil moisture.

History

The Harrison Hills ATV Club was established in 2002 to develop, maintain, and promote the trail system in partnership with Lincoln County's forestry department. The land remains managed for both timber harvest and recreation.
