Trail Overview
Valle Grande East Cut is the furthest eastern motorized trail that extends east of the Hurtado Mesa area. This out-and-back trail offers a variety of terrain, foliage, and views. The trail is primarily single-vehicle wide but does offer areas to pass if traffic is encountered. The dirt and grass terrain changes to a more rock surface many times throughout, with some obstacles being larger loose rocks up to 20 inches. Additionally, drivers will encounter deeper ruts up to 18" in depth, off-camber sections, and thicker brush overgrowth. Areas with a primarily dirt surface have the potential to be soft mud after wet weather such as snow or rain and should be approached with caution. Cell service is extremely weak throughout the trail, with several sections having no service. The trail dead-ends at a locked gate that designates the end of the USFS boundary and a private land tract.
