Trail Overview

Boathouse Cove 97 is a hidden gem of a narrow trail that carves its way through the picturesque hills and mountains surrounding Lake Mead. As you traverse this winding path, you'll be treated to stunning views of colorful rock faces and a chance to observe local wildlife, including wild horses and coyotes, as you descend towards the water. Please remember that camping is only permitted in designated spots, as both sides of the trail are part of the Pinto Valley Wilderness and the Jimbilnan Wilderness. It's vital to respect these boundaries to preserve the integrity of this beautiful environment. The trail features rugged hills and scenic valleys, with notable landmarks such as Guardian Peak, one of the highest peaks in the area. The northern side of Boulder Canyon is characterized by steep cliffs and barren rock formations that dramatically drop into Lake Mead, offering breathtaking views. As you proceed, watch for the striking red sandstone outcroppings that beautifully contrast against the green desert vegetation and the earthy tones of the desert floor. This unique habitat is home to the rare Las Vegas bear poppy, highlighting the region's ecological significance. As you approach the water, be advised that accessibility may be influenced by the current water levels, which can vary. While there are a few dispersed camping spots along the trail closer to the water, they do not offer optimal views of the lake because of low water levels at the time of recording. Important Note: Expect about one bar of LTE service that may fade in and out as you journey through the area, making it essential to download your offline maps before heading out. As this is a desert environment, always come prepared with sufficient water and supplies to enhance your experience on the trail.
