O Road

Trail Overview

The route begins as a single-lane strip of gravel, tight enough that you feel the grass brush the mirrors, but it soon broadens into a well-graded road where only the odd patch of deep stone unsettles the tires. Partway along, the gravel skirts a small country church and its quiet hillside cemetery--a peaceful landmark framed by open fields. From there, the track keeps its easy character until it meets the next junction. There are no campsites, water points, or trash receptacles, and cell coverage fades in and out, so come prepared to look after your own needs.

The Gravel Line follows a scenic stretch of Nebraska's rural past, from Kansas to Nebraska, entirely on gravel. These quiet backroads once linked farms, rail towns, and prairie homesteads--routes shaped by everyday life on the Plains. Today, the trail invites travelers to slow down and experience the landscape much as early settlers and locals once did. It's a peaceful drive through rolling hills, open skies, and the quiet history woven into Nebraska's countryside.
