Trail Overview

The northern section of this Stonewall Creek (north of its intersection with Park Creek Road) is a fascinating climb into the mountains, ending in an old patented mining claim. The trail is a narrow single-lane road, surfaced with native material, mainly rocks. There are several loose rocky ascents and a lot of deadfall. This portion of the trail is suitable for high clearance 4X4 vehicles. The short section of trail past the school bus is very narrow and should only be attempted by ATVs and motorcycles. This portion of the route quickly passes into rugged subalpine terrain. Evidence of historical mining activity in this environment is evidence of how hardy people were back in the day. To the south of the Park Creek Road intersection, the tread gradually widens, the surface becomes graveled, and the road travels through rural residential areas.
