Trail Overview

This 9.3-mile section of Trail 185 presents a more challenging ride, with steep hill climbs and descents frequently covered in loose rock. The west end starts on Forest Service Road 5706. The route traverses shelfy mountain slopes and occasionally runs along exposed ridgelines with dramatic views, at one point riding right on the edge of a mountain top. Several tight switchbacks appear in the middle of the trail that will require tight maneuvering, and the easternmost portion contains the steepest terrain. Though the trail remains decently wide enough for 50-inch vehicles from start to finish, riders should expect frequent loose rock throughout the entire route, log debris, and downed branches sticking out at precarious angles. The trail goes on the edge of a burn area, so downed logs will be common, but will likely get cut as this is a popular riding area and seems to be well maintained. This portion of Trail 185 is closed from 10/15 - 12/1 to motorized use. The north end accesses the Drop Creek ATV trail which takes you towards the stunning Overwich Falls.
