Trail Overview

North Rye Mine is an easy trail in the area of Rye Creek Rd south of Darby, Montana. This trail takes you from North Fork Rye Road to Mine Road. From the north end, the trail starts out very easy. The surface is very smooth packed dirt with almost no bumps. The trail is also two vehicles wide for the first couple of miles. However, this trail condition doesn't last. As you continue you will see the trail become more one vehicle wide. You will also start to find some pretty aggressive potholes that you will want to kill some speed for. These potholes are pretty randomly scattered for the remainder of the trail and there are a couple of pretty good tire ruts as well. Other than that there aren't many rocks and overall it is still an easy trail. There are some great views from this trail of the Bitterroot mountains near Darby and the surrounding mountains near this trail. Phone service is spotty along the way.
