Trail Overview

Ward Lake trail is a long and winding, well-maintained but bumpy gravel surface. The initial stretch of the trail passes several private residences and a cathedral. Although the Cathedral in the Pines is a notable landmark, there is no lake access from that location. The gravel road is wide and easy to follow as it ascends through a forested landscape. After passing a small lake, the trail climbs steeply again before reaching an intersection. At this point, the main route continues to the left, becoming noticeably narrower and transitioning into a two-track path. The road to the right leads to a private driveway and should be avoided. Beyond the intersection, the trail passes a few small dwellings and becomes tighter, with overgrown vegetation and muddy sections. Fallen trees have been cleared in one area, indicating previous storm damage. The trail eventually connects with a snowmobile route. There are no formal camping opportunities along this route, and it lacks services such as trash bins or water access. Cell coverage may be unreliable or entirely absent.

Difficulty

The trail is maintained but can develop light overgrowth between trims, especially in the summer months. Commonly used by local OHV traffic, the path remains visible and passable, though branches and low brush may occasionally encroach.
