Difficulty

This is a calm trail with a focus on scenic value rather than technical challenge. The surface is smooth with a dirt and gravel base, and there are no major obstacles or steep sections to worry about. However, the trail is only one vehicle wide for most of its length, so drivers should be prepared for limited space and occasional pull-off spots if meeting oncoming traffic. It's perfect for stock rigs and those who just want to enjoy a peaceful drive through the trees. Relaxed and low-pressure, it's an ideal route for cruising and connecting with nature.

History

The Iron Range OHV Recreation Area was built on reclaimed mining land, once part of the rich Mesabi Iron Range that fueled U.S. steel production for over a century. Today, this 1,200+ acre site blends industrial history with outdoor adventure, offering a rare chance to ride through the remnants of Minnesota's mining legacy.
