Trail Overview
This trail is a wide, relatively well-graded gravel route that runs mostly straight, with occasional gentle ascents and descents as it passes through stretches of forest and small open fields. A few private residences are located along the trail, so it's worth keeping an eye out for local traffic. There is a small bridge that crosses a wetland area, and several minor tracks branch off from the main trail, though most appear to lead onto private property and should be avoided without permission. The trail begins at the paved Highway 73 and ends at the paved McNiven Road, with both roads providing access to the nearby town of Chisholm. While the route is scenic and easy to follow, it does not offer any formal or dispersed camping opportunities. Basic services such as water, trash disposal, or restroom facilities are not available along the trail, and cell phone coverage may be spotty or nonexistent in some areas.

History
Superior National Forest was established in 1909 by President Theodore Roosevelt to protect the region's watersheds and natural resources after years of heavy logging and mining. The area has long been home to the Ojibwe people, who continue to maintain cultural ties to the land. In 1978, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness within the forest was given added protection, making it one of the most visited wilderness areas in the U.S. today.
