Trail Overview
This trail offers two distinct lines to choose from, each presenting its own level of difficulty. The more challenging route features steep, loose hill climbs combined with rock ledges that can reach up to two feet in height. Several sections are off-camber, requiring precise tire placement, good suspension flex, and solid ground clearance. It's best suited for experienced drivers and well-equipped rigs. The alternate line is less technical but is also steep, with a loose dirt surface and some mild off-camber areas. While it doesn't include large ledges, it still requires a careful approach, especially in wet conditions. Both options offer a fun climb with varying degrees of challenge.

Difficulty
This trail gives you options, but neither is exactly easy. The harder line is steep and technical, with boulders up to two feet tall and off-camber stretches that demand confident driving and solid vehicle setup. It's a true test for rigs with good clearance and traction. The easier line dials back the technical features but still brings a steep, loose climb with mild off-camber lean, enough to keep you alert behind the wheel.
History
The Iron Range OHV Recreation Area was built on reclaimed mining land, once part of the rich Mesabi Iron Range that fueled U.S. steel production for over a century. Today, this 1,200+ acre site blends industrial history with outdoor adventure, offering a rare chance to ride through the remnants of Minnesota's mining legacy.
