Trail Overview

This trail offers a steady challenge with numerous large rock obstacles scattered throughout, many reaching up to two feet in height. Several of these rocks are located in muddy sections, which can make traction unreliable and force you to carefully manage throttle and tire placement. These mixed terrain zones make this trail a good test of both driver skill and vehicle setup. A winch or other means of self-recovery is strongly recommended, especially if you're tackling it solo. It's best to travel with others when possible. Additionally, one section of this trail is designated as one-way only with proper signage where it becomes a one way, so plan your route accordingly to avoid backtracking.

History

The Iron Range OHV Recreation Area was built on reclaimed mining land, once part of the rich Mesabi Iron Range that fueled U.S. steel production for over a century. Today, this 1,200+ acre site blends industrial history with outdoor adventure, offering a rare chance to ride through the remnants of Minnesota's mining legacy.
