Trail Overview

This is a narrow, two-track trail that is entirely unmaintained and presents a mix of muddy, rocky, and heavily rutted sections. The route winds through dense forest and is often overgrown, with vegetation encroaching on the trail; pinstriping is inevitable. Large potholes and bumpy stretches make for slow progress, and several fallen trees may block the way. During one recent trip, six trees had to be cleared to continue, so carrying a chainsaw is strongly recommended. The trail is suitable only for capable four-wheel-drive vehicles with high clearance, as large embedded boulders and slick, muddy surfaces pose a challenge in multiple areas. The trail eventually opens into a clearing that may be appropriate for dispersed camping. Beyond this point, the route narrows further and is only passable by snowmobiles. There are no established campsites or services along the trail. Dispersed camping is generally permitted within the Superior National Forest, as long as it is outside the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Be sure to confirm with local authorities before camping. No amenities are available--there are no toilets, water sources, or trash receptacles--and cell reception is limited or nonexistent.
