Trail Overview
Lyles Old Field trail begins along Rump Road at its western end and runs southeast. The trail consists of packed sand and grass, so it is an easy trail to drive, even in a two-wheel drive vehicle. It passes primarily through pine thickets and tall grassy areas. Lyles Old Field is a popular bird-watching trail, even being listed as a birding spot on www.bird.com. Lyles Old Field terminates at an open gate with a large tree covering the trail just beyond the gate. Lyles Old Field Road is entirely within the Sansavilla WMA, and a valid Georgia Hunting or Fishing license is required to access the trail. Allowed vehicle types are restricted to street-licensed vehicles unless during specified hunts, when other offroad vehicles (ATV, UTV, SxS) are allowed but only during certain hours.
