Trail Overview

The Horizon Loop is a 3-mile ATV loop east of Bayfield, Colorado. It has sections of two-track through the forest, but part of the trail is on oil well access roads that are full-width gravel roads. The trail portions are accessible, being a wide path in the flat sagebrush valley or winding underneath the sparse ponderosa pines. The trail is chopped up in spots due to small ruts and small loose rocks. The east side of the loop intersects with a road near the 694 Connector trail, then continues west. You can take the Skimmer loop to add some trail mileage and skip a portion of the access road. After the Skimmer loop, the trail goes through beautiful meadows, with deeper ruts and some steeper spots as it goes up and down the rolling hillsides. This trail is easy overall and makes for a fun ride, combined with the Ridge ATV trail and the Lange Canyon loop.
