Trail Overview

Serving as the primary central artery that connects all other routes within this off-road network, BLM V 3/10 is a highly active and scenic 1.5-mile dirt transit trail. The journey officially kicks off at a sprawling, unpaved staging area that acts as a bustling recreational hub. You will frequently find this lot packed with large trucks, toy-hauler trailers, and groups enjoying roadside picnics before heading out. As a popular multi-use corridor, expect to share the path with fast-moving dirt bikes, side-by-sides, and horseback riders. Immediately upon departing the parking lot, the trail introduces continuous dried erosion ruts ranging from 10 to 12 inches deep. Drivers can often bypass the deepest sections by carefully riding the elevated shoulder, which will place the vehicle at a mild but manageable off-camber angle. Just a few hundred yards into the drive, explorers will discover a cluster of four to five prime dispersed campsites. Each of these clearings can comfortably fit one to three large rigs and offers incredible panoramic views paired with excellent tree coverage for wind protection and privacy. Further down the trail, around the 0.9-mile mark, you must navigate a distinctly washed-out section of the road that demands careful tire placement. Beyond this moderate obstacle, numerous additional camping opportunities line the remainder of the route as you travel through the picturesque desert landscape.

Difficulty

Under strictly dry conditions, BLM V 3/10 aligns perfectly with a Level 2 difficulty rating. While a 4x4 vehicle is generally recommended for a smoother and more controlled experience, a 2WD vehicle with at least 10 to 12 inches of ground clearance can successfully navigate the continuous ruts and the specific washout obstacle at the 0.9-mile mark. The primary technical requirement here is simply maintaining adequate clearance to avoid dragging your undercarriage on the high centers. However, a severe weather restriction applies to this entire local network: absolutely do not enter this trail if it has rained recently or if precipitation is forecasted. When wet, the soft desert dirt quickly transforms into a horrendous, impassable mud that will effortlessly strand even the most capable, heavily modified 4x4 trucks.
