Trail Overview
West Sawyer Road was a great way to start my day exploring this area. There are no obstacles along this trail. It is wide, with varying surface material, going from dirt to rock and back again. As with many of the trails in the area, there are some dips caused by water damage and erosion, but nothing that would ruin a great trail. The views along this trail are stellar, with one section in particular traveling through what would appear to be a Joshua Tree Forest. The significance of the Joshua Tree is amazing because Joshua tree is a Mojave Desert endemic. Its distribution follows the Mojave Desert boundary in southern Nevada, southwestern Utah, western Arizona, southeastern California, and northern Baja California Norte. They grow very slowly, just 1-3 inches per year, which gives them an average life span of 150 years, and only grow in a specific environment and between 1,500 to 6,000 feet in elevation.
