M0777 is a captivating trail that branches off from the main graded Freeman access route, leading you south into the enchanting foothills on the western side of Black Mountain. As you begin your journey, you'll find a spacious dispersed campsite just off the trail, perfect for travelers equipped with campers or trailers. This campsite features several fire rings, making it an ideal base camp for those looking to explore the surrounding area. The trail itself is generally narrow, with tight sections that are bordered by creosote, mesquite, and cholla. Be mindful of your vehicle's paint, as these desert plants can inflict scratches and pinstripes. As you navigate the terrain, you will cross a few small washes, experiencing a delightful assortment of dips and turns, coupled with gentle rises and descents through the sandy landscape. A variety of short rock gardens and some rutted transitions will add a fun challenge to your ride. This trail provides great access back into the foothills and connects you with two sections of the nearby M0775 loop, enhancing your exploration options in this stunning desert setting. Keep your eyes peeled while traversing the path--you might catch a glimpse of a family of three javelinas or hear the rustling of quail darting past. Important Note: As you prepare for your adventure, remember that this region is governed by the Arizona State Land Trust. A permit is required to access these lands, so be sure to purchase and print your permit online before your trip, as it's valid for a full year. Additionally, there is no cell service in this area, so take the essential step of downloading your offline maps.
