Trail Overview
FDR 1900, also known as FS MT1900, is a thrilling rocky trail that weaves dynamically in and out of sandy washes, creating an adventurous off-road experience. As you navigate this trail, you'll encounter narrow bushes and trees, including Creosote and Palo Verde, which can potentially cause paint damage--so keep the edges of your vehicle in mind as you drive. This area is vibrant with wildlife;if you're fortunate, you may catch glimpses of red-tailed hawks soaring overhead or even bighorn sheep off in the distance. The landscape is adorned with many striking saguaro cacti, enhancing your connection to the desert flora. Scattered along the route, you'll find great pull-off spots ideal for camping for the night, mainly near several intriguing offshoot trails. As you continue up the trail, you'll pop out into a beautiful cholla forest, immersing yourself even deeper into the unique desert ecosystem. At one point, you'll crest a hill and be rewarded with outstanding views of Roblas Butte and the impressive surrounding rock cliffs, making it a perfect spot for a photo opportunity. If you're lucky, you may witness fire plane crews practicing their water dumps in the area--an exhilarating sight that enhances your outdoor experience! Be mindful that cellular service along the trail is often spotty, typically offering only two bars of LTE that may fade in and out. Therefore, it's crucial to download your offline maps before setting out, and given that it's the desert, always bring plenty of water and supplies, especially as summer temperatures can soar well above 100deg F.
