Trail Overview

Powerline Drop was part of the recent Baja 250. It stretches from Baja 250 race mile 66 to 71, running between VCPs 67 and 68. It drops from 1477 to 920 feet during the straight line course. This trail follows a line of tall power poles across a soft, sand-heavy desert floor. The sand is deep from the start, and proper tire pressure is critical--airing down will make the difference between flow and frustration. Early on, the trail throws in a surprise: less than a mile from the northwest start, there's a sharp drop into a wash. It's not technical, but it demands attention--especially if you're carrying speed or riding solo. As the route continues, the surface is marked by small, methodical whoops that provide a steady rhythm without beating up your rig. They taper off in the final miles, giving you a smoother exit. The trail is framed by diverse and vibrant desert flora--ocotillos, Palo Verde, creosote trees, and even the occasional teddy bear cholla--making this stretch especially scenic during golden hour.
