Trail Overview
Cerro Pelon, or Bald Mountain, can be accessed from the north or south via other onX trails. Starting from the south, the route begins alongside a stretch of farmland with about two to three inches of sand. After leaving the farmland, you'll pass through a barbed-wire fence (typically open) and begin a gradual ascent toward the mountain's peak. The initial climb is relatively straightforward, with a few off-camber sections and spots requiring precise wheel placement, though nothing too challenging. Midway up, you'll encounter steeper terrain, particularly the final two climbs, which are both lengthy and steep, demanding careful navigation to avoid deep ruts; airing down here can greatly improve traction. After reaching the summit, the trail becomes less intense, winding gently down into Valle Tranquilo.

Difficulty
One climb on this route warrants its higher difficulty rating: the long, steep ascent to the summit, deeply rutted and demanding precise wheel placement to avoid sliding into a trench along an exposed section. Walking this portion to assess the best line is recommended, especially given the risk. Attempting this climb in wet conditions or shortly after rare storms is strongly discouraged.
