Trail Overview
This section of Lomita Amarilla begins at a distinctive four-way intersection marked by a concrete water container and serves as the southern, more challenging variant of the route. The first 2.5 miles are relatively mild and typically don't require 4WD, but the terrain quickly changes after passing a deeply rutted corner carved out by race traffic heading north before turning east. From there, the trail becomes more demanding, with stretches of deep sand whoops and three silt beds ranging from 30 to 50 meters in length. You'll know you've reached them when the road widens significantly--evidence of race vehicles fanning out to find the best line. With low tire pressure and 4WD engaged, these sections are manageable, but they do require focus and proper technique. Once past the silt beds, the trail eases into a gentle descent toward the coastal route, where you can head right toward Puerto Chale or left to continue your exploration along the shoreline.

Difficulty
After the 3 to 4-mile mark, there are a few sections along this trail that warrant caution--most notably two or three silt beds where the trail widens significantly as vehicles have veered off in search of better lines. These silt pockets can be up to a foot deep or more and may require 4WD and air-down tires to navigate safely. Aside from these areas, the rest of the route is fairly straightforward, with sand being the primary challenge.
