Trail Overview

Big Tank and Suffering Wash is a delightful trail that offers a unique glimpse into the area's wildlife. Swing by Big Tank for a chance to observe local bovines enjoying a refreshing drink or perhaps wallowing in the mud. Just be cautious, as you might also find remnants of their presence smooshed into your tire treads or flung onto the side of your rig! This spot makes for an amusing stop, and just remember not to take too much of their "souvenirs" back with you on your tires. The trail is well-maintained and smooth, making for an enjoyable ride through the desert. If you prefer to stay on solid ground, follow the trail to East Willow Springs as it crosses Suffering wash. Consider veering into the wash and experiencing a fun dash through the soft sand for a bit more excitement. The sandy terrain allows for a lively adventure, and you'll find that there aren't many hidden rocks or branches to mar your paint job. As far as washes and access routes go, this trail ranks highly due to its accessibility and relatively hassle-free navigation. You'll also find that the trail offers a few Verizon LTE service bars, allowing you to enjoy your favorite podcast as you wind through the landscape. It's important to note that dispersed camping spots were limited in this area. However, if you enjoy the company of cows, nothing is stopping you from setting up near the tank. Just remember, this is open-range land--always watch for cattle and make sure to leave any gates you come across exactly how you found them, whether open or closed. Important Note: As you venture along the Big Tank and Suffering Wash trail, expect to encounter narrow sections and lengthy runs of soft sand. It's wise to prepare adequately with water and supplies and ensure you have your Arizona State Land Trust permit to access this area.
