Rolling River Road

Trail Overview

Rolling River Road is a scenic, remote trail cutting through the south end of Riding Mountain National Park. Originally built as a firebreak, this one-vehicle-wide gravel road winds through dense boreal forest, open meadows, and marsh. The trail has gentle elevation changes and several long, open straightaways with tree-lined stretches. The majority of the road is firm and well-packed gravel, as it is maintained by the National Park. Occasional wildlife sightings -- black bears, moose, deer, and even wild turkeys have been spotted in the area. The road is typically closed for the winter from October 31 to May 1. The gate will be locked during the seasonal closure, but pedestrian access will still be available. A permit is needed to enter Riding Mountain National Park by vehicle.

Difficulty

This trail is closed in the winter, one vehicle wide, with plenty of space to have two vehicles pass each other slowly. There are no water crossings.
