Trail Overview
Island Road trail is an out-and-back trail due to a closed gate on the northern end. It also provides access to the Logging Road trail and a number of other unmarked spurs in the area. The trail surface is packed dirt with crushed rock as a stabilizer. There are several wet spots and mudholes along the trail, but they shouldn't present a problem to most higher clearance 4WD vehicles. The trail is lined with mature southern pine trees and mixed oak scrub that are rumored to hold various game such as deer, wild hogs, and wild turkeys. Island Road trail is entirely within the Townsend WMA, and a valid Georgia Hunting or Fishing license is required to access the trail.
