Trail Overview

Windy Gap Motorcycle Trail spans 2.6 miles with a demanding 1,400-foot elevation gain from south to north. Marked with a motorcycle-only pinch point and a sign warning it's for experienced riders, it begins like the ATV trail--wide and winding through the forest--but quickly narrows and ramps up in difficulty. Expect steep climbs with loose rock, ruts, roots, and tight, technical switchbacks, often with rocks on the inside of the corner. The trail includes shelfy traverses, boulder-strewn climbs, and sections where leaves obscure hidden obstacles. A ridgeline forest offers cool scenery and growing views after the switchbacks, but some of the most technical riding lies ahead: embedded boulders, narrow side-hilling, handlebar-width tree gaps, and a rocky creek crossing before ending at Grassy Mountain Road.

Difficulty

This is an intermediate trail due to frequent challenging obstacles. There are frequent embedded boulders and roots, creating off-camber and technical stair steps, plus potential for downed logs. The trail is narrow and requires side-hilling and switchback techniques in several somewhat exposed spots.
