Hoffman Road

Trail Overview

Hoffman Road is a large Forest Service road that provides access to a wide area of the southeastern portion of the Sandhills Game Lands. The road itself is wide and well-defined, with numerous trails branching off and a couple of key points of interest along the way. One of the most prominent features is one of the largest hunting campgrounds in the Sandhills. This area is spacious enough to accommodate many vehicles and campsites, though camping is only permitted during certain times of the year, primarily around designated hunting seasons. Another notable point of interest is a memorial to the 551st Parachute Infantry Battalion, honoring those who lost their lives during a training mission in 1944. This memorial, along with access to Kinney Cameron Lake, is located toward the northern end of the road and can be reached via a short Forest Service-style spur. Overall, the trail is easy to drive and suitable for most vehicles. A few ruts and small patches of loose sand are present, but these are typically minor and can be avoided with careful line selection.

Difficulty

The trail is an easy, wide Forest Service road with the most notable challenges being a few short ruts that can typically be avoided. Most of these ruts are only a couple of inches deep and, if encountered, will likely just result in a slightly rougher ride. Another minor challenge is occasional patches of loose sand, which are also only a few inches deep and can generally be avoided if desired.
