Trail Overview
Stevens Ridge Loop is a moderate OHV route best suited for riders on motorcycles and ATVs under 50 inches looking for a quiet, connected trail system in the Blue Mountains of southeastern Washington. This 8.5-mile loop combines Boundary Trail #3283, Wood Road Trail #3271, Sawmill Trail #3277, and short segments of Stevens Seed Orchard Road #4000-020, offering a mix of narrow singletrack and forest road travel typical of OHV trails in Umatilla National Forest. The ride begins with a steady climb of just over 600 feet on Boundary Trail, where native soil and compacted dirt surfaces are occasionally broken up by loose rock and shallow ruts. Trail width remains tight through this section, reinforcing its designation for smaller vehicles, while full-size 4x4 access is limited to the Seed Orchard road segments only, and multiple trail intersections allow riders to shorten or extend the loop using adjacent ATV connectors. After the initial climb, the route transitions into a gradual descent and more rolling terrain as it links into Sawmill Trail and the connecting corridors, where surfaces shift between packed dirt and gravel with occasional muddy stretches in wet conditions. Junctions between trail segments and road connectors can be easy to miss without close attention to the MVUM, and signage may be minimal, making navigation a key part of the experience. Boundary, Wood Road, and Sawmill trails are typically seasonally closed to motorized use from December through March, while Stevens Seed Orchard Road may remain accessible depending on conditions. Expect limited turnaround space, potential downed trees, and mixed-use traffic from other riders throughout the system, with snow lingering into spring and wet weather quickly degrading trail conditions across this moderately challenging OHV loop.
