Trail Overview

Located deep in the dense woods outside of Wilkeson, Middle Fork is a moderately difficult route ideal for smaller, highly capable off-road vehicles. Unlike busier off-road spots in the area, you will rarely encounter anyone else on this trail, making it a perfect place to test your skills and your vehicle in relative privacy. The trail is predominantly a narrow, single-lane road with very few turnouts or passing opportunities. While the tight brush occasionally breaks to offer a couple of valley views, the true fun of this route is the engaging, technical challenge of the trail itself. This route requires focus, proper ground clearance, and occasionally, careful tire placement. The surface is heavily degraded and completely blanketed in loose gravel and relentless stretches of loose rocks up to a foot or more in diameter, essentially creating an extended rock garden. Along with the rocky terrain, you will need to navigate significant off-camber sections that will test your vehicle's articulation. Due to the tight width and technical, bumpy surface, full-size rigs will struggle; this trail is best experienced in a short-wheelbase 4x4 or a dual-sport motorcycle ready to tackle a rough, uninterrupted ride.

Difficulty

This trail is a persistent technical challenge. While there are a few easy, smooth stretches, they make up a very small minority of the route. The bulk of the drive features steady inclines over a heavily degraded surface filled with large, often loose rocks exceeding 12 inches in diameter. The most demanding sections will force you to navigate these large rocks while simultaneously dealing with significant off-camber angles. Because of these compounded obstacles and the narrow track, high clearance - capable short wheelbase vehicles or dirt bikes are ideal.
