Trail Overview
This is a gravel trail that climbs up a ridge in the National Forest. It begins at Highway 12, beside a Runaway Truck Ramp. Be sure to stay out of the loose gravel ramp unless you want to sink. As you climb, you will have a view of a rocky cliff face across the canyon, and of Mt Ranier. Once the initial steep climb is over, it becomes much more gradual after the switchback. At this point, the trail narrows, and you pass through tight wooded areas. Expect to have to remove trees from the trail. The trail continues to gradually climb to the end, where it ends with areas for dispersed camping. The best views are on the initial climb before taking the switchback. Cellphone service was nonexistent on this trail, so it may be best to download the offline map. There are several old roads near the end that show closed on the app, but it appears ATVs and dirt bikes take these trails. From this trail, you are close to White Pass, where there are amenities, services, hiking trails, and overlooks of nearby waterfalls. Any vehicle should be able to traverse this trail, but expect some pin striping and to navigate sections of small ruts and wash.
