Trail Overview

This is the most difficult of several options to reach Flag Pole Knob. The route is generally only one vehicle wide with dense foliage in the warmer months. There are also several rain dependent muddy areas and creek crossings. Numerous 12-18" rock steps going up and down are found along this route. Meadow Knob is located just past the intersection with Dunkle Hollow Trail and has nice views with camping opportunities. The lower section is a basic gravel forestry road.

Mostly loose rock, very dry except for mud holes at the top. Rock ledges seem more dug out than a few months ago. A few groups camping at dispersed sites. Thick canopy. Brook and creeks completely dried up.

All the stream crossings were dry. Although the water / mud holes near the top did have water in them. There was a tree down a little after the slab pile marker on a shelf road segment of the trail which I moved to the side with my winch. I'm glad I had the winch because going in reversed would have sucked.
