Trail Overview
Alier Hollow, also known as Forest Road 255, is a side spur off Bensons Run. As with Bensons Run, the route begins with a pair of gates used to cross the cattle farm. Users must close each gate behind them to maintain access across the property. The lower half of the trail, which is open year-round, is similar in difficulty to Bensons Run. Some ruts are present, but the route remains easy overall. Vegetation overgrowth is slightly more noticeable here, especially during the growing season. A large campsite is located roughly one-quarter of the way into the trail, and dispersed camping is permitted within the national forest. The upper half of Alier Hollow is open to vehicles only during hunting season, from October 1 through January 10. Foot traffic is allowed past the seasonal gate for an easy hike. This description covers only the lower half of the trail that remains open throughout the year. There's ample room to turn vehicles around at the seasonal closure point.
