Trail Overview
Green River Overlook is a short out-and-back trail that leads to one of the best elevated views in the area. This route is fairly easy overall, but a capable 4x4 is recommended to safely reach the dead-end viewpoint. The trail surface is a mix of gravel and limestone-based dirt, creating changing conditions along the drive. Some sections feel firm and stable like concrete, while others can be softer and looser depending on the weather and traffic. Expect a few rocky spots and mild off-camber ledges that require attention, but nothing overly extreme for a properly equipped vehicle. The reward comes at the end, where the trail narrows onto a peninsula-style overlook with dramatic views of the Green River, the small town of Elgin, and parts of the town of Green River in the distance. There is enough room for a few vehicles and tents, making it a memorable overnight stop. Wind can be strong here, especially during spring, so secure camp gear and plan accordingly.

Difficulty
This is a short and mostly easy route with mixed gravel and limestone surfaces, a few rocky sections, and mild off-camber ledges. Most of the trail is straightforward for a capable 4x4, but softer dirt near the overlook and changing surface conditions can require extra attention. Wind at the viewpoint can also impact camping setups.
History
Routes in this area were shaped by a combination of ranching access, utility roads, and recreation travel. The Green River corridor has long been important for transportation, settlement, and industry, making these modern trails part of a much older travel landscape.
