Trail Overview
BLM 33 is a highly rewarding, 3.2-mile out-and-back backcountry two-track that seamlessly escorts explorers through a beautifully vibrant high-desert landscape. The distinctly soft, vivid red sand path playfully meanders past an old, rustic wooden fence line before safely winding its way through a classic desert environment heavily populated by scattered green juniper trees and thick sagebrush. As you cruise comfortably under a brilliant blue sky dotted with fluffy white clouds, the exceptionally clear, easy-rolling trail steadily climbs upward toward the rugged base of the towering, majestic sandstone cliffs looming directly ahead. The profoundly scenic journey officially culminates at a spectacular, elevated dispersed campsite safely perched high above the valley floor. This premier, highly isolated terminus deeply rewards backcountry travelers with breathtaking, 360-degree panoramic views of the surrounding colorful cliffs and an unforgettable, sweeping vantage point looking directly out over the vibrant expanse of the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park.

Difficulty
BLM 33 confidently earns a Level 2 Easy technical rating, a score dictated primarily by its wonderfully approachable, easy-rolling nature. Unlike the heavily rutted, distinctly technical trails in the surrounding network, this specific path completely lacks severe rock-crawling ledges, steep washouts, or heavily overgrown, vehicle-scratching brush. The only notable obstacle on this brief, relaxed transit is the persistently soft, vividly colored red sand that naturally makes up the driving surface. To successfully maintain your forward momentum without awkwardly bogging down, a high-clearance 4x4 or capable AWD vehicle is recommended. Drastically lowering your tire air pressures before hitting the trail will perfectly maximize your essential flotation, vastly improve traction, and ensure a highly comfortable, remarkably smooth ride up to the scenic campsite.
