Trail Overview

Worley Bridge Road is a scenic, easygoing dirt and gravel route that leads you across one of the few remaining historic bridges in Texas still open to vehicular traffic--the Historic Worley Bridge. Located on County Road 428, the trail crosses the San Gabriel River on this single-lane iron truss bridge originally built in 1912. Restored in 2014 and officially designated a Texas Historic Landmark in 2023, the bridge offers a unique step back in time. As you ease your vehicle across the bridge, open your windows and turn off your radio, and you'll hear the unmistakable squeaks and creaks of the century-old structure beneath your tires. While the road itself isn't technically challenging, the area around the bridge is scenic, making it a worthwhile drive for history enthusiasts, photographers, and anyone who appreciates a peaceful backroad with a story to tell.
