Trail Overview

Old Maverick Road is a more direct alternative from Panther Junction Road to Santa Elena Canyon. It is also the route to access Rattlesnake Mountain, Ocotillo Grove, and Terlingua Abaja campsites. It is primarily a washboard, gravel road providing fantastic views of the Chisos and desert flora. Please observe speed limits while traversing the road. Inclement weather can drastically change the nature of Big Bend trials. Please monitor the weather while in the area.

Access Description

From Panther Junction Ranger Station, head West approximately 15 miles. Turn left onto Old Maverick Road. Alternatively, turn right approximately one mile from the Big Bend West entrance (from Terlingua).
