Trail Overview

The main road into the park is a graded road, and 2WD High Clearance is recommended. Street legal vehicles ONLY in the park. This is the only way in and out of the park. There are some washes that can make the road unpassable during heavy rains, but wait it out, and as the water subsides, the wash will become passable again. DO NOT attempt to cross while water is flowing. At the park entrance sign, there is a vault toilet and a small parking area off the side of the Main Road. This area is designated LATE ARRIVAL, and single-night camping is allowed for arrivals when the Visitor Centers are closed. Along the main road, there are turnouts for scenic views and also a ledge with pictographs. A couple of hiking trail heads are available as well. The Main Road passes the Park HQ (Sauceda), where free potable water and warm showers are always open. Occasionally, there is bagged ice available. At the end of the Main Rd., there is a residence that is utilized by park officials and is OFF LIMITS to visitors.
