Trail Overview
SWG 1 is a mostly dirt two-way trail that connects Coal Haul Road 1, S8, and GS1. This trail is a good connector route through the area, but it does require more attention than a simple gravel road. Several sections are narrow, with overgrown trees and grass limiting visibility and making it harder for vehicles to pass. Drivers should be prepared to slow down and use pull-off areas when meeting traffic. The trail has several wet areas where spring water collects across the road. These water spots can reach around 12 inches deep at times, but most have a solid rock bottom, making them manageable in normal conditions. There are also some deep ruts along the trail that smaller vehicles will need to approach with the right line to avoid dragging or getting hung up. A few short inclines have loose rock, so steady throttle and careful tire placement are helpful. SWG 1 eventually ends at GS1, making it a useful route for continuing deeper into the trail system.

Difficulty
SWG 1 earns a 4 out of 10 rating because it includes narrow sections, limited passing areas, spring-fed water crossings, deep ruts, and loose rock on short inclines. The water crossings are usually around 12 inches deep and have a rock bottom, but the rutted areas can require careful tire placement, especially for smaller or lower-clearance vehicles. The loose rock climbs are not extreme, but they can cause traction loss if driven too fast or with poor line choice. After heavy rain, the dirt surface may become slick, and the water collection areas may become more challenging.
