Spoon and Gibson Lakes - NF4220

Trail Overview

Spoon and Gibson Lakes NF4220 starts just past Horseshoe Lake and immediately begins a rocky ascent up the ridge, offering incredible views of several alpine lakes below, including Bretton Bush, Spoon, and Gibson Lake. The trail surface is mostly rock with very little dirt, making it extremely bumpy--slow, careful driving is a must. The area was recently devastated by wildfire, and while the road has been cleared, numerous cut and fallen trees line the trail. In some places, mud puddles and pooled water add to the challenge, and drivers will occasionally need to navigate around lingering debris and tight tree corridors. This rugged forest trail rewards those who come prepared with proper gear and patience.

Rated a 3 due to rough, rocky terrain, fire-damaged conditions, and mud/water sections. High clearance and 4WD required.
