Trail Overview
Skellock Pit is located in a phenomenal area, tucked a mile or two behind the Klamath Wildlife Refuge. If coming from the beginning of Kirk Road, there is a fallen tree near the end of the trail. It is easy to get around; however, it is on a blind corner, so take it slow near the end. In the middle of the trail, you will find a huge red gravel pit with very cool and interesting rock formations. This trail is great if you wish to get off of the main road (Kirk) and lets you bypass one of the busiest sections. Larger ruts in sections give this trail its earned difficulty. Traveling in a low-clearance 2WD may be difficult, especially in the gravel pit.

Difficulty
The trail contains several sections of ruts, and the gravel inside the gravel pit is somewhat deep. 4x4 is advised, as 2WD vehicles may become stuck in the loose gravel in the pit. The overall road condition is good with minimal potholes. Be careful during the weekdays as this area contains active logging.
