Trail Overview

This trail is a short offshoot from Mortimer Piedmont - FS 982. The western entrance starts at the back of a campsite along FS 982, while the eastern entrance is slightly hidden due to overgrown trees and is located just beside the campsite. The western entrance leads directly to several campsites, accommodating up to 10 vehicles. These sites are situated along the upper creek, offering convenient access to the river and nearby hiking trails. The second half of the trail includes two mud pits. The easier one lies on the inside edge of the trail and can reach depths of up to 18 inches. The more challenging pit features a soft, muddy base with approximately a foot of water above it after rainfall. The trail finishes with a narrow double-track section winding through the trees. Although tight, the risk of pinstriping is lower here than on other nearby trails.

Difficulty

Running the whole loop results in driving through one of two mud pits. The shorter mud pit on the inside of the trail is the easier of the two and varies in depth from 6 inches to 18 inches, depending on rainfall. The mud pit on the outside of the trail is deeper, watery, and has a very soft bottom. This side is about 6 inches deeper and poses a greater challenge.
