Trail Overview
Blue Valley Road winds through the scenic Blue Valley Experimental Forest near Highlands, North Carolina. Starting with a brief stretch of pavement, the road quickly transitions to gravel, passing scattered homes before opening into a serene stretch of dispersed campsites. From here, the road offers beautiful views, abundant camping options, and a smooth gravel surface, making it ideal for an easy overland adventure. Trail Highlights: Camping: Numerous dispersed campsites with fire rings and picnic tables, some large enough for multiple vehicles.Views: Gorgeous mountain and forest scenery throughout.Accessibility: The trail is easy to navigate, even with snow and ice. Trail Conditions: The gravel is small and compact, ensuring a smooth ride. Cell coverage is spotty with AT&T, offering some areas of 2 bars LTE but others with no signal. Trail End: The trail's endpoint is gated and permanently closed, with visible tree growth beyond the gate. A short walking path beyond the gate leads to a creek crossing that appears to have been a former obstacle. There is ample space to turn around to head back.
