Trail Overview

This is an intermediate rock crawling trail in the Glade Run Recreation Area. It starts on a fast dirt road, then turns off the road into the pinyon trees, and goes down a very steep slickrock face to drop off the mesa. It's like a steep ramp for 15 feet, but there is a bypass around it. Throughout the 2-mile route, the trail is constantly ascending and descending between the rock layers of the mesa, with frequent moderate obstacles both up and down. The next obstacle is a rock shelf that has plenty of grip but could end up in high centering, but there's a way around this one too. There's a loose downhill with uneven rock layers, then up a taller and steeper rock ramp to get back on the top of the mesa. One of the rock faces has a split line, with varying levels of steepness to choose from as you descend (or ascend) a long rock face. One is an optional more advanced line, but the regular line is smooth, with good traction, and you can square up to it and walk the front wheels up. There's a blunt waterfall obstacle that is more difficult, but it also has a bypass. The south end ends on another straight and easy section of oil well road.

Difficulty

This is considered an intermediate difficulty trail because although it has some more advanced obstacles, there are often bypasses and split lines to choose an easier route. All of the obstacles that are required are more moderate, where you can square up to it so it's not off-camber. The traction is good on the rock faces. This trail is a 6 per the BLM, meaning you'll encounter 20-degree grades, 35" tires and a minimum of 1 locker (front of rear) is recommended. Stock vehicles will likely need multiple attempts, and wider vehicles need to take caution. Trail recovery gear is also recommended.
