Trail Overview
New Years Trail is a double black diamond 4x4 jeep trail that will require a minimum of 37"+ tires and front and rear lockers, and it's recommended to have winches, skid plates, and proper recovery gear. The south end starts in a wash, winds through junipers with big boulders in the trail and next to giant boulders on the side of the trail. It's a confusing route in the beginning, with lots of tracks that have been washed out. It goes up a steep slickrock slope with a crevice at the top that will need to be straddled. At the top, there's an optional obstacle down some slickrock layers and shelves next to a towering rock pinnacle. It winds between the junipers more on a dirt trail on top of the mesa. It goes between a narrow opening in the rock walls, up a slickrock slope, straddling another crevice, and up a 2-foot blunt ledge. You'll drive along the rim of the mesa, with great views, and drop off another 2-foot tall ledge. There's an off-camber slickrock slope that you'll go down to get into a wash that is narrow with a crack down the middle that will be more difficult, followed by ~5-foot-tall slickrock face to climb back up. Parts of the track near the end are more faint and washed out.
