Trail Overview

Just over half a mile long, ATV Trail #971 is a short spur off of ATV Trail #968 that rides across a flat hilltop and through grassy fields of juniper trees. It is a very minor and gradual descent from Trail 968, but mostly flat. The trail is smooth dirt lined with tall grass, with very minimal rock, and no obstacles. It leads out to a couple of flat spots that would make for a good camp spot if you are looking to camp off of your ATV or dirt bike. The trail dead-ends after a half mile, so you'll have to ride this as an out-and-back. The trail was unmarked at the entrance, but it is easy to follow.

There are several easy and moderate ATV trails in this part of the Gila National Forest, accessible between the North Star Road and the Mimbres River Trail. North Star Road is not advised for trailers over 20 feet long, and high clearance is advised. An ideal place to stage is at the horse pasture at the entrance of FS Road 4206B, and access the trails starting on Trail #974.
