Trail Overview
ATV trail #964 is the longest trail within the Sapillo Campground trail system, being almost 2 miles long. It is a wide path through ponderosa pine trees and big open grassy fields. The north end starts as a smooth dirt trail, ten feet wide, with easy curves along a fence line. An offline map is helpful as there are unmarked intersections right away. The trail has a bit of an embedded rock slab that is flat and easy to ride over, plus some loose rock scattered in spots. It rides past some scenic red rocky cliffs and enters a wash full of gravel. There is a small stream of water in the wash in the springtime, and the trail crosses the water several times, and stays in the wash for the southern half of the trail. It ends on the south end at a stream crossing where the designation becomes "nonmotorized", which is not marked in person, but you'll have to ride this as an out-and-back.
