Trail Overview

The Mormon Mesa Rim Trail is a lovely trail that offers outstanding views from above the towns of Amargosa and Logandale as you navigate the rugged terrain along the ridgeline. This path leads you through a captivating landscape, where the cliffs give way to less severe elevations as you head further north, providing a delightful exploration of the mesa's natural beauty. As you traverse the trail, keep an eye out for Double Negative, a remarkable piece of land art located in the Moapa Valley on Mormon Mesa (or Virgin River Mesa) near Overton, Nevada. Created in 1969 by artist Michael Heizer, Double Negative consists of a long trench in the earth--30 feet wide, 50 feet deep, and 1,500 feet long--created by displacing 244,000 tons of rock. The work highlights negative space, representing what has been removed and the relationship between natural and man-made environments. Additionally, you'll encounter the Mesa Appreciation Garden. This lovely spot pays homage to the local flora and fauna, especially the desert Tortoise, enhancing your experience as you connect with the unique environment. The trail features a mix of dirt and rocky surfaces, presenting a balanced adventure for off-road enthusiasts. Important Note: While exploring the trail, be sure to download your offline maps in advance, as cell service may be limited. Expect to encounter areas featuring beautiful vistas and the potential for wildlife sightings.
